A deep interest in Japanese art, thought and philosophy have led me to the explore the principles of wabi-sabi, which celebrates what is imperfect, impermanent and incomplete. My work acknowledges thoughts and ideas about how the continually changing nature of all beings and objects affect the view of oneself and how place and identity are inextricably bound to one another. In my recent collages, I explore the philosophical concept of MA. I am fascinated by “space within a space” and how it can pertain to literal, physical and negative space, but may also refer to the perception of a pause in time, an interval or emptiness in space that allows us the time to breath, feel and connect. Author Junichiro Tanizaki wrote,“ We find beauty not in the thing itself but in the patterns of shadows, the light and darkness, that one thing against another creates.”
"My work is informed by extraordinary life experiences that have shaped my aesthetic and world view. I have an intense curiosity about places and the ways in which they can unite us. As an artist, I don’t simply ‘see’ visual stimuli — I absorb them, and they become a part of my psyche."
She is a member of the Collage Artists of America, National Collage Society (Signature Member), Women Painters West, Global Art Project and IAA/USA an NGO partner of UNESCO. Her work will be included in an upcoming exhibition, “Artful Connections” at the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art in Owensboro, Kentucky.

Artist Teri Dryden was one of seventeen international collage artists who recently took over a studio in Hackney Wick, London, UK for a week-long collage artist residency with @ceciltouchon, co-hosted by @contemporarycollagemagazine. For the “London Collage Project” the artists were given only one rule—all of the materials used had to be found or sourced in London.
Of the artist workshop, Dryden declared that after “having spent an incredibly creative and stimulating week with a group of fiercely talented collage artists, I am beyond excited to get back into my own studio space and create a body of work inspired by my week-long residency in London."
We are eager to see how this experience influences her practice! Look for new pieces from this series at Brandt Gallery soon.

With a generous grant from the Great Meadows Foundation, Teri was able to travel to the Baltimore Museum of Fine Art to see the Joan Mitchell Retrospective.

Teri Dryden has work in the National Collage Society's Small Format Exhbition. The collages are on view from April 8 - June 25, at the Summit Art Space in Akron, Ohio.
